MUSIC: THE BERTRAMKA VILLA

The Bertramka villa, named after its first owners, was built at the end of the 17th century. In 1784 it became the summer residence of the famous Czech singer Josefa Duskova and the piano player, teacher and composer F.X.Dusek. On their invitation Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart visited Prague and it was in the charming atmosphere of this house where opera Don Giovanni was finished just before its first performance on October 29, 1787. Mozart visited Prague and Bertramka again in 1791. He liked Prague and there is the sentence he said - "My Praguers understand me" The Museum of W.A.Mozart and the Dusek family was opened in the villa in 1956. It contains all Mozart and Dusek memorabilia, personal belongings such as musical instruments, manuscripts, letters and paintigs. Also regular concerts of classical music are held here. Open daily 9.30a.m. to 5p.m.

THEATRE: THE MUSICAL GOLEM

The story of our musical takes place at the end of the 16th century in Prague. These were the days of the reign of Emperor Rudolf II who was known to like mysticism. In the Jewish quarter, the ghetto of Prague, lived Rabbi Leib, known as the Holy Maharal. The legend tells how the Rabbi succeeded to give life to a creature he formed from Vltava River mud by writing secret holy letters on the creature's forehead. This is the Golem. The Golem went out to fulfill special important missions that you will see throughout the play. And of course there is a love story, laughs and tears, and a lot of good music. Every day, except Fridays, from 9 PM, on Saturdays from 10 PM at Spanelska synagoga in Prague 1. For your tickets resevation contact our office.

ARCHITECTURE: THE MULLER VILLA

The Muller villa is the work of Adolf Loos, one of the foremost European architects of the early 20th century. It was built between 1928 abd 1930 for Prague businessman Frantisek Muller. Adolf Loos, in colaboration with Karel Lhota, not only designed the villa and every detail of its interior, but also supervided its construction. The villa is one of Loos finest works, in which he was able to fully apply his "Raumplan" design principle. The style departs from the traditional vertical arrangement of space into floors, working instead with individual rooms of different height arranged around the building´s imaginary vertical axis. Original state from 1930´s was restored in long reconstruction in the late 90´s. The villa houses a permanent exhibition of Adolf Loos´s work and it is open to public. Open tuesday, thursday, saturday and Sunday 9 a.m to 5p.m. Pre-booking is required. Reduced admission 200 CZK, free for children up to 6years of age.

MUSIC: THE ANTONIN DVORAK MUSEUM

In a charming villa know as "America" designed by baroque architect K.I.Dietzenhofer there is a museum devoted to the life and career of the world acclaimed Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. The museum was established in early 30´s, since 1976 it has been part of the National Museum. The exhibition contains unique collection of manuscript music and letters in Dvorak´s own hand, photographs and various objects of interest of the author of the Symphony of the New World. Open daily except Mondays 10a.m. - 5p.m.

ART: THE MUCHA MUSEUM

The Mucha Museum, dedicated to the life and work of the world acclaimed Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphons Mucha (1860-1939), has been open since 1998. It is located in the prestigous Kaunitz Palace in the historical centre of Prague. The museum is split into seven separate sections exhibiting: Decorative Panels, The Parisian Posters, Document Docoratifs, The Czech Posters, Paintigs, Drawings and Pastels ane Personal memorabilia of the artist. The Mucha Museum occupies 500 square meters including a terrace and a Museum Shope offering an exclusive selection of gifts and articles with Alphons Mucha motifs. THEATRE: TA FANTASTICA BLACK LIGHT THEATRE

A creative, visual world, space for the imagination and the poetry of the magic lantern - all this makes up the world of TA FANTASTIKA Theatre. These approaches, which mean that the performances are understandable and free of language barriers, make the shows so successful and requested throughout the world. Aspects of Alice, for example, started its run an unbelievable nine years ago and we have given almost three thousand performances in thirty countries on three continents. The repertoire was always based on big, classic novels such as Baron Munchausen, Don Quixote, Alice in Wonderland and, most recently, Gulliver's Travels. These famous literary works are, however, presented non-verbally by the theatre. The only language is movement, music, black light theatre effects, mechanical tricks, puppets and, most importantly, large screen projections which communicate with the work of the actors ...

JAZZ: JAZZBOAT

For all lovers of good jazz the best Czech jazzmen, their bands and guests from abroad perform on the floating jazz concert stage in Prague. You can choose music you like the most. Jazzboat offers all different kinds of jazz from traditional jazz, dixieland, swing, blues, mainstream jazz, modern jazz and jazz ethno fusion. THEATRE: LATERNA MAGICA

The history of the Laterna Magica dates back to 1958. The first period, created by the director Alfred Radok and stage-designer Josef Svoboda began at the world exhibition EXPO 58 in Brussels, Belgium. The programm showed in the Czechoslovak pavilion was named Laterna magika and later gave its name to the theatre in Prague, reconstructed at 1959 after the worldwide success on EXPO. The second period was presented on the EXPO 67 in Montreal, Canada and as well as on the EXPO 70 in Osaka, Japan and with these performances travelled the theatre through the world. In the half of seventieth became Laterna magika the part of the National Theatre in Prague, on the head with the artistic director Josef Svoboda, who was at the beginning of this special medium, which does not use the words, only the combination of film projection and life stage media’s - dance, sound, lights, pantomime, black-theatre e.t.c. There is a basic effort which is creating the face of Laterna magika till today - searching of the way to a specific theatre which is able to narrate a story by using of different themes and medias as well.

CONCERT: ST.NICHOLAS´CHURCH

The church of St.Nicholas was built in the half of the 18th century by K. I. Diezenhofer, the most famous architect of the high Prague Baroque. Inside you will find fresco paintings with themes from the life of St. Nicholas and a celebration of Benedictine saints with Old Testament scenes.In 1868 the church was rented to the Russian Ortodox Church. During this period, P. Maixner's altar painting of Jesus Christ on a throne and a beautiful crystal chandelier made in the Harrachov glassworks were added. The chandelier is in the shape of the Russian coronation crown and has diameter of 4,5 meters and weighs 1400 kg. On January, 11, 1920, the Czechoslovak Hussite Church was proclaimed here, and uses this church till today. Concerts are performed here every day by top artists and ensembles from Prague and abroad. JAZZ: JAZZ CLUB U STARE PANI

In the 15 century the house was situated in U proroků, which was confiscated by the Old town community in 1424.then Mr. Šídlo bought it and turned it into a tavern named Šebířova. In 1488 Mr. Matěj Rejsek, a well-known late Gothic builder, owned the house. He finished the temple of St. Barbora in Kutná Hora plus many others including Prašná brána. At a later date the house was renamed U zeleného orla. In the 17 century prosecutor Melichar Teyprecht from Prechtynk purchased the house, which was later confiscated and sold for 849 KOP to miller Ondřej Touškovský in 1631. At the end of 17 century the house was again sold to a new owner Reisman from Reisenberk.In the years 1933 - 35 the historical building was remodeled by František Dittrych and turned into a hotel with a restaurant, wine house and a jazz club. The club is open till 1 a.m.Jazz concerts of famous Czech and international musicians are held every day exl. Sunday from 21 to 24 pm. Concert programme is available.
